One wonders whether our government officials were even aware that today is the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl Nuclear Plant accident, the world’s worst nuclear plant accident in history. Or maybe they do and consciously chose to announce plans to move ahead with the nuclear power plant in Jaitapur?

But then again, if the Fukushima crisis and violence and killing of its own people over the plant don’t matter, why should we expect this Government to at least have the good sense to not make this announcement today of all days.

We hope these students run with this idea and make it a reality. The country and the planet is depending on them to change the unsustainable solutions we are currently using.

Affordable solutions to our insatiable energy needs already exist. The world just lacks the will to implement them.

In fact why isn’t this solution being implemented in Mumbai? It would help clean up the mounds and mounds of wet garbage that lies all over the city, and provide clean and environmentally sound energy to millions.

Evidently the Queen of England spends 1 million pounds a year on utility bills. But trying to take the money from low income families, hospitals and housing?

Two pieces of advice for the Queen:

1. Don’t live beyond your means is a lesson learned by Americans as we try to make do in this recession. That works for royalty as well.
2. Consider renewable energy.

A bit dated, but still related…no one knows how much the Queen is actually worth.
