I read an article about it. It says, it’s actually an overlay of many pictures taken by NASA to show increasing population of India over time. White, blue, red and green colors depict different time periods. But nevertheless, India must look somewhat like this on Diwali night.

Fake, because the image shows Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and a part of Mayanmar illuminated in the same way. None of these countries celebrate Diwali the way India does.
